REFLECTIVE TEACHING

·         What is reflective teaching?
It is an Activity of self-reflection that teachers should do. It is about to think and questioned their own teaching practice, with the intention of improving their teachers’ development, doing better classroom processes and outcomes and keeping the interest of students for learning in a high level.

·         How important is reflective teaching?

Reflecting teaching plays an important role on education quality. When a teacher reflects about their own teaching practicum, about their own attitude, and think carefully about their weakness and strengths, it lets the teacher to make better decision which intends to do a better performance of their job. It is necessary that teachers change their methodologies and look for innovation because it considerably impact students learning.

·         What is the cycle of reflection like?

The cycle of reflection involve the development of some skills which are related with each other. The cycle of reflection begins when the teacher THINK about issues or concerns related with their teaching practicum and which are affecting the teaching: Thinking, Questioning, Problem Solving, and Decision Making.
The first one, Thinking,  is about to inspect, study and examine the problem situation, or when something is confusing, conflicting or disturbing, after, questioning occurs once we are alert about the problem and we start to classify what it’s relevant or not, and we ask ourselves about the problem. Then, we think in some possible solutions in the step of problem solving. Finally, in Decision Making we choose the best one, and start to do what it pretends we do.

·         What is reflection? How many types of reflection are there?

I am in agreement with those researchers who consider Reflection as a means for (1) improving classroom processes and outcomes, and (2) developing confident, self-motivated teachers and learners. Because, the main objective of reflection is helping the teacher to improve, and help students to learn easily.  That’s why it is important the self- analysis, the feedback from both parts, as well students as the teacher.
There are some types of Reflection:
Reflection in-action: It makes reference to those thinking or points of view that we make during the teaching session.
Reflection on-action: On the other hand, this is the reflection we make after the session. It is to think back on what we have done to discover how our knowing-in-action may have contributed to an unexpected action.
Reflection-for-action. This one intends to act for improving.
Technical rationality, examines teaching behaviors and skills after an event, such as a class

  •     What can be done to put reflective teaching into practice?
  • I think it depends on the teacher. But there are some strategies that can help teacher in the process of reflection. For example: Discuss with students about the sessions, writing journals, observations, ask someone to analyze their teaching.
